Orthopedic Conditions (e.g., Fractures, Joint Replacements)

How occupational therapy helps individuals with orthopedic conditions?

  • Pain Management and Relief:
    • Occupational therapists employ pain management techniques, exercises, and modalities to alleviate pain and discomfort associated with fractures or joint replacements.
  • Range of Motion and Flexibility:
    • Occupational therapy includes exercises and activities to improve joint range of motion, flexibility, and mobility, essential for post-fracture or post-joint replacement rehabilitation.
  • Strength Building and Muscle Conditioning:
    • Occupational therapists design strengthening exercises to build muscle strength around the affected area, supporting the healing process and preventing muscle atrophy.
  • Functional Independence and ADL Training:
    • Occupational therapy focuses on enhancing the ability to perform activities such as dressing, bathing, and grooming through training and adaptive techniques.
  • Assistive Devices and Mobility Aids:
    • Occupational therapists recommend and educate individuals on the appropriate use of assistive devices (e.g., canes, walkers) to enhance mobility and stability during the rehabilitation phase.
  • Joint Protection Techniques:
    • Occupational therapy educates individuals on joint protection techniques to minimize stress on the affected joints, promoting longevity of joint replacements and preventing further injury.
  • Home Exercise Programs:
    • Occupational therapists develop personalized home exercise programs, ensuring individuals continue their rehabilitation exercises independently for optimal recovery and functional improvement.
  • Adaptive Equipment and Home Modifications:
    • Occupational therapy assesses the home environment, recommends modifications, and suggests adaptive equipment to promote a safe and accessible living space during the recovery period.
  • Scar Management and Wound Care:
    • Occupational therapists provide guidance on scar management and wound care, ensuring proper healing and minimizing scar tissue complications following orthopedic procedures.
  • Educational Support and Precautions:
    • Occupational therapy offers education on post-operative precautions, movement restrictions, and techniques to avoid re-injury, enhancing the recovery process.
  • Activity Modification and Graded Exposure:
    • Occupational therapists assist in modifying activities and gradually reintroducing individuals to their daily routines and hobbies to rebuild confidence and improve function.

Occupational therapy plays a significant role in orthopedic rehabilitation by focusing on pain management, functional independence, mobility, and overall recovery, enabling individuals to regain their optimal level of function and resume their regular activities after orthopedic injuries or surgeries.

My experience with bridges speech centre has been great. My child is attending OT in the center and we are happy and proud with the progress Mrs. Richa has made. The therapists are very supportive and knowledgable in selecting techniques to suit with our child's requirements . Their monthly review and evaluation is remarkable. I highly recommend bridges speech centre to anyone looking for an affordable and professional therapy for their child....

We were asked to consult a speech therapist for my son. As parents we were quite skeptical about this whole process. However, once my son started attending Dr Rupali’s sessions we noticed a drastic improvement in his speech. He used to speak only a few words but within the 1st four sessions he started speaking up-to 5 words sentences. I also learnt to manage my child’s emotions better with Dr Rupali’s guidance. She is very cooperative and patiently answer all questions.

We took our 21 month old daughter to Bridges speech center following her cleft palate surgery as she needed Speech therapy. Ms.Rupali was recommended to us by both our Pediatrician and ENT specialist. The staff at Bridges are qualified, warm and friendly. My daughter loved to attend the speech therapy sessions. Through various techniques and simulations provided during these sessions, I can see considerable improvement in my daughter's speech. Lastly I would say, no child is same, as parents we need to be patient and trust the process.
